Cripple Arm doesn't stop the victim from using Guard despite its' description saying that it disables usage of anything in the Hands slot.

Are you sure you weren't fighting against something with access to Guard without a shield? (Ice Point Guard and Naga coil come to mind)

I've also had my BK/DH Dull cripple armed and still able to use Guard from their Fang-Faced Shield.
