+1, this sounds like a great idea. Would make guard work easier, too!

But then there is still the spars-gone-wrong/betrayal fights. What about those?
I think that if someone's intention is to betray someone, or have a spar gone wrong, they should note it at the beginning of the fight OOCly. SL2 has restrictions on it, anyway- you can't hurt players without their consent- so simply having the fight start with non-spar mode should work.
