According to the update notes it's supposed to work in Range, but like before it still just works in melee range.

the weapons tested were a Tamaki Shuriken and Touya Shuriken.(Nothing done on them besides normal upgrades)

It seems to be working for the most part, the only issue is that sub-attack won't apply dagger dance from any range with Shuriken.
